So just imagine that the Sun, the Earth and the Moon are lined up. From our perspective, if you were at the Sun, then you probably wouldn’t notice.
Even then, when it’s penumbral eclipse, the Earth’s total shadow won’t cover the moon. The word penumbral comes from Latin for ‘almost shade.’ The Latin word Umbra, shade, also inspired the English word Umbrella, ella, ella a!
Dallas will get about 3 minutes and 30 seconds of darkness. Travel south to get a better view.
